Refreshed Chase back for Cas

Castleford coach Terry Matterson believes the RFL's disciplinary committee did his club a favour by banning Rangi Chase.

The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form all year for the Tigers and had played in all 23 of their league and cup matches before he was suspended for punching during the win over Bradford.

Chase was initially given a two-match ban but it was halved on appeal - ruling him out of the league clash with the Crusaders.

And having struggled against bottom club Crusaders in the absence of their classy playmaker, the Tigers will welcome back a refreshed Chase for Sunday's Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final against Huddersfield at the PROBIZ Coliseum.

"You take Michael Dobson out of Hull KR, Kevin Sinfield out of Leeds or Danny Brough out of Huddersfield and they do it tough," said Matterson.

"But I think what has happened has worked out perfectly. In a bizarre way, they did us a favour, especially with us getting the result.

"Rangi has got a rest - he'd played nearly every minute of every game - it's just cost him £300.

"It's a long season and Rangi also played in the Exiles game. He probably carries the ball more than any other half in the game, he gets more attention than anyone in the game and that wears you down week in, week out.

"It's good to be able to refresh him and he's now jumping out of his skin because he doesn't like sitting on the sidelines."

Chase's superb form has put him among the candidates for Super League's Man of Steel award but Matterson does not believe Castleford are a one-man team.

"Danny Orr and Ryan McGoldrick take some of the pressure off him so we're more capable in those areas than we have been in the past," he said.

"The ball doesn't always have to go to Rangi. He wants the ball all the time but we have some other people who can do some things with it."

The Tigers also have hooker Adam Milner back for Sunday's tie but utility forward Steve Snitch is out with a ruptured bicep and Matterson is grateful to Salford and Wigan for allowing him to field loan pair Rob Parker and Ben Davies against the Giants.

"Steve is our fifth front rower who is out injured," he said.

"I don't know what we'd do if we hadn't got Ben Davies and Rob Parker available."
